Spellcheck is now available in the MyCanvas editor. Find possible typos, choose a correction, and save family names to your dictionary while working on your book.

When you are bringing family stories together, a small spelling mistake is easy to miss. Our new spellcheck feature helps you give your text another look before it goes to print.

Turn it on and spot possible typos

Click Check spelling in the top toolbar, next to the grid icon. Possible spelling mistakes appear with red wavy underlines. A small badge shows the number of flagged words on your current page.

This is MyCanvas’s own spellcheck, independent of your browser’s built-in spelling checker. It checks text already on the page, so you do not need to retype it to spot possible mistakes.

For now, spellcheck supports English only, using a US English dictionary. We plan to add more languages in the future.

Click a word to fix it

Click an underlined word to see suggested corrections, then choose the right one. In the demo, “vilage” becomes “village” and “ninteen” becomes “nineteen.” Your text updates right on the page.

Keep your family names just as they are

An unfamiliar surname or place name is not necessarily a mistake. Click Ignore to stop flagging that word until you reload the editor.

For names you want to keep, choose Add to dictionary. Saved words are remembered across projects in the same browser. Your personal dictionary stays in that browser and does not sync across devices.

The red underlines only appear while editing. They never show in print.

See it in action

Watch the short demo to see how to correct a typo, ignore a place name, and add a family name to your dictionary. Then try spellcheck on your next page.
